2022 Home Run Derby

The home run derby will feature some of the best sluggers in baseball. In years past, it has provided many of the great moments of all-star weekend. The 2022 derby will be on the Monday before the all-star game (July 18th).

The format is now a single elimination tournament (since 2015) that is made up of three rounds. Players go up against the clock to record as many home runs as possible.

Players have yet to be finalized, but they will likely be competing against the two-time defending champion – Pete Alonso of the New York Mets.

Now with rounds, there are even more ways to bet on the home run derby. Use live betting to find new odds after each round!

Pay Attention to Pitching!

The main tip for betting on the all-star game is looking at the pitching matchups. Unlike other MLB games, the pitchers will change very often.

By seeing who is warming up in the bullpen and who is coming up to bat, you’ll be able to see what matchups are likely for the next inning. If a left-hander will be facing a few right-handed batters that have had success against the pitcher in the past, it could be a sign for a big inning.

History of the MLB All-Star Game

The first MLB All-Star Game was held in 1933 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. It has been held each year since, with the exception of 1945 and 2020.

MLB chooses the park that the game will be played at each year, alternating between AL and NL stadiums. Many new or historic stadiums are selected. For example, the all-star game was held at old Yankee Stadium the year before the team moved to the new stadium.

The number of players has changed throughout the years. Each team has consisted of 34 players since 2018. Hank Aaron has the record for the most all-star appearances, being selected for 21 seasons.

The MVP is selected by the fan vote (20%) and the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (80%).
